Collagen Lip & Philtrum / Cupid's Bow Sculpting (Over Perlane)

October 17, 2003

Having had collagen injections from numerous injectors I have to say this was a very pleasant experience.  Not much pain at all, less injections and more actual sculpting.  If someone says injectables can only make what you have larger and not actually alter the shape and form of your lips, go to someone else.

I also had (Thermage and Botox to my glabella, brows and crow's feet.  I had already had Perlane left over in my lips from a shoot for Self Magazine a month and a half before but can always use a little more volume. LOL!  Remember, I already have Gore-Tex implants in my lips.  Without all this I would have chicken lips.

It is no secret I have a very undefined cupid's bow and very little definition in my philtral ridges.  What the heck is a philtrum, you ask?  A philtrum is the medial groove directly under the nose, between it and the upper lip.  You may notice 2 augmented "lines" that run from your columella of your nose to the cupid's bow when you look in the mirror.  Well, lucky you!  I don't have this. lol

I had the vermilion borders (the border of the lips where the colored area meets the facial skin), the cupid's bow and the philtral ridges or lines augmented with bovine collagen.  Why did I bother with collagen?  You see, I may be getting Silikon 1000 and I wanted to see what it would look like and what could be achieved (Dr. Humble gets my vote!).   She actually sculpts the area and although it may hurt a teensy bit with the sculpting part, it is worth it!

Note the needle holes from the nerve blocks for Thermage and the swelling around my forehead and undereyes from the Thermage procedure.

Dr. Humble didn't put too much in my philtral column because she wanted to just give me a taste in case I didn't like it - it would fade shortly.  I did like it!  A big difference but it would take a little getting used to.  I am extremely impressed!  It's weird having a defined philtrum!  She even made my cupid's bow closer together rather than how it usually is, pretty far apart.
