10 Days To A Healthier, Leaner, Detoxified Body: Journal #2

 

Once again I am going on  "The Master Cleanse" by Stanley Burroughs.  This is my second full cycle, my first journal is very detailed (including tips and words of caution, after-meals, etc) so please refer to Master Cleanse Journal #1 for more information.  This page is just a personal journal to monitor my progress.  I started up again because I have been an idiot and have been eating cruddy for the last month.  I wound up gaining 6 lb in a week and cannot believe I ate the crud that I did.  I have been feeling sluggish, my digestive system is all messed up and it's about that time anyway.  I am not sure I will do a full 10 days but I will do at least 5 -- I know I most certainly am not doing 13 again unless I have a real need.  You are supposed to do it for 10 days but it depends upon the um, product, of the cleanse, LOL!  BTW for any of you who followed my last journal, I haven't had ANY kidney problems since!! and NO GOUT!  Now with daily BMI (body mass index) and weight count! (I sound like a commercial).  BTW I set my scale 1 to 2 lb. ahead so I don't feel so bad if I gain, LOL!  Do I have issues or what?  So, I can subtract a lb. or so (I cant tell exactly to the oz. as my scale isn't that high quality).

BMI Categories:
I can't say this BMI calculator is very accurate because if you are pretty muscular, your weight will be a lot higher and then of course you aren't overweight.  I think this is for pretty average individuals with normal muscle mass.  Not weightlifters and athletes.  I hardly have any muscle because I am a lazy nincompoop and am surprised my legs can even hold me up.  Seriously, I an a workaholic and this past year I have worked 12 to 15 hour days almost every day for 365 years, no vacations, no sick days.

Recipe:
The below recipe make 60 oz of "lemonade", enough for 6 to 10 oz glasses.  Although your requirements may be different than mine.  Please read the book to determine your needs.  60 oz is sufficient for a "reduction" cleanse. 

60 oz water per day (or 10 oz per glass) -- I use Crystal Geyser Spring Water.
12 tablespoons Organic Grade B Maple Syrup (or 2 tbsp. per glass)
12 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice (or 2 tbsp. per glass)
a little over half a teaspoon of cayenne pepper (or 1/10 tsp. per glass) or to taste

Additional Items:

1 box of Senna Leaf Tea
Sea Salt


10/02/02 Day One - The Beginning
Morning Weight: 129 lb. and I am sure a lot of it is water weight and NASTY FOOD like Krispy Kreme and Thai, and Indian food too.  Okay it is "good" food, but bad for you.  I feel so bloated and nasty. ICK!
BMI: 20.8

I tell you what, the second time around is a lot easier than the first, I know how to make the lemonade on the fly and can tolerate the spice and drink a lot of it.  I started out with the Senna Leaf tea this morning, lovingly referred to as THE TEA -- no effects yet.

However, if I have to pee one more time today I am going to lose my mind.  Can you say, "Marianne start drinking fluids regularly!!"  I also have significant water/edema though.  I was supposed to start my menstrual cycle today, but no dice.  Could I be any more bloated!!??

Evening: I may have to help Marc cook dinner for himself, wonder if I will get hungry?  THE TEA started in on my system.  Gotta hate that.  You know, if it were not for the stomach cramps I wouldn't mind whatsoever. I started on another cup at 8 pm instead of right before bed like I did the first time around because I simply abhor getting up with painful cramps at 4 or 5 am. Ludicrous!

Note: I started my period this evening, so don't worry. LOL!  Too much water weight though.  Woke up at 5 am and 7 am anyway. Uh, wasn't I trying to avoid this??  I hate getting up in the middle of the night, much less twice.

10/03/02 Day Two
Night Weight: 123 lb. RIGHT ON! How else can I drop 6 lb in 24 hours??  However, I am sure a lot of it is water. I feel like a sponge.
BMI: 19.9

I had appointments today and could not drink THE TEA or drink the saline wash for fear of, well, "inopportune emergencies."  I sent Marc to the store for more lemons and he also brought back a bigger jug of Organic Grade B Maple Syrup (32 oz) for $8. at Trader Joe's.

I drank my lemonade so fast today, I had to ration myself because I was craving it so badly.  All of my friends think I am crazy, *as they ate their fast food in front of me*.  Work was stressful today.  Got my hair done and a manicure to feel better.   

Drank THE TEA at about 12:14 am, I hope to goodness I get to sleep at least 4 hours.  As you progress and you have less to liquefy (eew), and THE TEA runs through you faster.

Note: Like clockwork, I woke up at about 5 am, and then 7 and then 7:30 am.  Joy.  I am already seeing some mucous.  If all goes as it should. I will eventually get to mucous only for a day or so and then the mysterious dark solids that I have NO idea the origin.  Supposedly toxins and fat, I wonder if it is muscle protein as well?? Isn't that disgusting??

10/04/02 Day Three
Morning weight: 121 lb. WOO HOO!  Unfortunately, if I quit now most of it will come back as water weight because I am pathetic at drinking fluids all day. 
BMI: 19.5

Judy (my hairstylist) gave me two lemons from her mother's tree.  I only had to use 1 1/2 to get enough lemon juice! They were so juicy and huge,  She said that those were just the medium sized ones.  What are they watering those lemon trees with??

I am drinking the saline wash right now -- yuck.  Off to take a bath and wait until it kicks in.  More information than you wanted to know, huh?  We will see how long I go this time.  The problem is that my step-sister is coming in town and I have to see her next week -- dinner will be out of the question if I am cleansing.

Later: Also, I am drinking more juice this time, I got speedy this evening like I had been given caffeine or something (I don't like caffeine) so I made three more glasses of juice over my daily limit (that's 90 oz today instead of 60 oz) and I felt better within 5 minutes.  Wonder what it could have been?

Note: Got up in the middle of the night anyway -- good grief. BTW I never passed the saline like I did the first time. What the!! All that nastiness (32 oz of water with two tsp. of sea salt) drank WARM and NO REACTION.  I went up to 122 lb. by bedtime because of all that crappy salt.  Last time it went right through me.

10/05/02 Day Four
Morning weight: 122 lb.  Damn saline wash, the salt is still holding on. 
BMI: 19.7 (probably water though, NOT fat)

I couldn't drink THE TEA today either because we had a huge shipment of gravel and bark and we were spreading gravel all afternoon. I had as much energy as I needed today -- out in the hot sun spreading gravel, fertilizing new landscaping, and washing off the street and driveway.  

I am going to drink THE TEA as soon as I finish this last glass of, shoot!! I just looked over -- I drank it all!!  Man I suck this stuff up!!  WTH!! I can't drink it all the time either (when not cleansing) because then it makes the cleanse not work so well next time you do it.  Or at least that's what I was told. I will have the tea and take my bath and wait it out, LOL!

p.s. Marc bought pizza for lunch and brought it HOME!  I looked in the box, too. For shame. Also our friend who was staying with us for a while (he is now out of the country) left some groceries of his out for us, including some really good Japanese Nori and agar-agar salad (freeze-dried) -- talk about torture.

10/06/02 Day Five
Morning weight: 120 lb. Thank goodness.
BMI: 19.4

Day five already??  It is Sunday and I see my sister probably tomorrow or Tuesday.  Can't eat or drink anything -- what a bummer. We are invited to a BBQ as well next week; will have to cancel :( 

I worked all afternoon and evening in the heat, shoveling bark and tending to the landscaping.  I also edged the grass along our walkway with scissors because the weed whacker was not doing a good job.  It is newly-grown grass that has never been edged so it was a jungle!  I felt great all afternoon except for the last few minutes because I hadn't had juice in a while so off I went to have a little bit of sustenance -- and felt fine 10 minutes later.  Started working again.

BTW Last night I got up twice, nothing really until this morning.  I am not passing as much as I did last time nor is my tongue coated yet, so I thought about quitting.  I called my best friend up and asked her what to do she said to go for a day or two more just in case I am not blocked or anything.  She said she had that before and on day 8 she well, did her bidness. LOL!  Maybe I am just clean. I mean I shouldn't have expected much after having such an "experienced" the first time around. Think about it, that first time was 28 years of grossness.  This time it is a year and 4 months of eating very well, no caffeine, whole grain carbs, fruit, good meat cuts and veggies.  And only SOME cheating.  But not all the time.

Plus I want to go out to eat with my sis.  Maybe I cleanse another day and see what happens.

10/07/02 Day Six
Morning weight: 120
BMI: 19.4

I almost quit yesterday thinking I was going no where but lo and behold at 4 am this morning a bunch of "junk" came out!  Eww.  So I am staying on it.  This afternoon the same thing, so obviously something is coming out.  I started wondering today if it could be protein from muscles.  I heard that if you fast that your body uses the protein first before using the fat -- but I have found this untrue as I tend to lose a lot of fat mass as opposed to getting weak or less muscle when I flex.  But who knows?  I am not a doctor and only know that I feel well so what can ya do?

My best friend told me that her second time it took her longer to start passing the dark mysterious sludge so I listened to her and waited and alas she was right!  I'll bet she loves that ;-)  Anyway... I am starting out with THE TEA and then drinking my lemonade and starting on the landscaping again.  More bark for everyone!

10/08/02 Day Seven
Morning weight: 118
BMI: 19.4

Everything is going rather well, however taking my measurements and weighing myself is depressing me more than anything so I stopped doing that.  My sister is coming in town tomorrow and wants to see me.  What are we going to do??  I mean everyone always has coffee or eats or gets drinks etc socially.

10/09/02 Day Eight
I wound up going to Alcatraz today with my sister and cheating.  We were in San Francisco and had the BEST clam chowder in the world.  My sister's fiancé is a surgeon and insists after 7 days of fasting (which he says is essentially what I am doing) the body starts utilizing muscle protein and not just fat.  

I didn't have stomach cramps or die or anything from eating solid food (okay semi-solid food).  But I felt guilty.

10/10/02 Day Nine
Going out to lunch with my sister and on a wine tasting tour.  I will taste and not really swallow and am bringing a huge supply of lemonade.

I wound up having a salad because I couldn't sit at the table and watch them eat.  No one has that much willpower.  I failed, aaaghh!!  Oh well, I almost made it.
