My Somersizing
Journal
Okay, I am starting yet another diet, this one thanks to my dear friend Barbs.
She looks fantastic (body to die for, can wear anything, can wear like 100
different hairstyles, great skin, you know the type, as Suzanne Somers would
say, we hate those people! *kidding*). I was a
one-meal-a-day-eater before I began
Somersizing *bad* All I know is everyone is losing their extra weight and feeling great while Somersizing
-- well it's MY turn now!!
She sent me the first book 'Eat Great, Lose Weight!' (there are two
others which I will be ordering) and today I start a sort of preview or intro to healthier
eating trial run to see if I can even do this :) Okay stats -- I am regretting this BUT I know I will lose it so I won't mind publishing these stats and lbs in the long run.
Oh my God! I am having a Déjà Vu. Have I disclosed this before???
stats:
I am 29 years old at the time of this publication
Have a sedentary job and get very little exercise (I am going to begin Yoga soon
and Tae Bo)
I am 140 lbs (egad!)
5'6" (lost an inch from spine compression after my motorcycle accident and plain
old aging)
39-27-39 (DANG!!)
I am looking to get back down to 118-120 lbs, 36-24-36 like I was when I got my lip implants
put in. Who knew that lip implants make you gain weight?! Here we go!
Day 1 - Trial Run
This eating regimen or way of eating (WOE) (Suzanne Somers does not like to call it a
diet) I think very well may work for me. You can eat SO much food it isn't funny.
Yet it makes
total sense! I just read the book, found some websites, recipes and a great support
site and went shopping! BTW a few more friends of mine are starting it too so we sill be Somersizing buddies.
breakfast:
Fuji apple (hey it was easy)
lunch:
1 hamburger patty with cheese and mushrooms no bun
sautéed onions
dinner
2 hamburger patties
mushrooms, onions, red peppers
beverages: water with lemon
Day 2 - Trial Run
I never was hungry yesterday and since I have yet to get into the full swing of creative Somersizing
I am eating basically the same thing. From now on I will call this SS for ease of reading and Somersizing overkill.
Read
some areas of the book again -- it's a good read, I like the way she writes.
She sounds like
she'd be a nice person to know in real life.
breakfast:
Fuji apple (it was easy like I said)
lunch:
2 hamburger patties again with cheese (I like it, sorry)
broccoli with cheese
salad with oil and vinegar
dinner:
chicken with soy
ginger and soy snow peas
red peppers
beverages: water with lemon
Day 3 - Trial Run
Feeling good again :)
breakfast:
Fuji apple (shaddup, I've never been a big breakfast person)
lunch:
3 hardboiled eggs with a little mayo, salt and pepper - aka "egg
salad"
dinner:
Meatloaf
red peppers
broccoli with cheese
(and we had company and I made a little corn and instant boxed fettuccini
alfredo) I AM BAD!! I slipped -- no excuse.
beverages: lemon water
Day 4 - Trial Run
breakfast:
Granola (but I found out later I shouldn't have had it, so that was an inadvertent slip up)
lunch:
left over meatloaf (I love meatloaf)
red peppers
dinner:
meatloaf
broccoli with cheese
beverages: water and lemon
Day 5 - Trial Run
breakfast:
Granola (but I found out later I shouldn't have had it, so that was an inadvertent slip up)
lunch: Thai soup - which is basically hot and sour water with veggies
dinner:
I need to go to the store, I know I shouldn't have but I REALLY wanted a Meatloaf sandwich
anyway. I shouldn't have, but I did.
beverages: water with lemon
Day 1 - The REAL Deal
Okay now time to get serious no more of this cheating business. Cindy is starting with me.
breakfast
egg and cheese and ham omelet -- no oil or butter
lunch
last of the meatloaf with mushrooms and cheese with onions. I am going grocery shopping!! I have to. But the food is good anyway -- may seem like I'd be sick of it but it tastes good.
dinner:
we went out for Marc's b-day with his friends so I got a hamburger patty smothered in
Swiss and mushrooms and two slices of bacon
side of green beans with butter
side of mayo for my burger and beans - I LOVE mayo and I love this diet!
beverages: water with lemon
Day 2
breakfast:
Half a Fuji apple because I dropped it half way through
I could have gotten another one but I was already full anyway.
lunch:
mung bean noodles (noodles made from bean sprouts and water) with lemon juice, chili pepper,
red peppers and onions Although I don't think that it may be legal because
I noticed that it had a little corn starch in it. So, that is not a good thing.
These don't have to be cooked you soak them in water for about 10 minutes.
dinner:
hamburger patty with Worcestershire sauce and garlic
broccoli with cheese
1 serving Crystal Light, water with
lemon throughout the day
Day 3

red peppers and green beans mixed with onion and butter

with lemon throughout the day
Day 6
Today I didn't eat my 3 meals, our friends were in town (one of them happens to
be our tattoo artist) so we hung out and basically got tattooed at the house and
watched movies. I also lost another pound! How's THAT for a good day!

planned on having pasta or some other carb meal like a whole wheat pizza with
artichoke hearts (no oil), garlic, mushrooms and tomatoes, fat free cheese.

garlic powder, parsley, oregano (I am out of Basil )
and a little mozzarella thrown on top the last 3 minutes.

pm and stayed up until about 3:30 am)

Update!
7/26/02: I know I haven't written in this journal for a long
time but I truly got sick of counting days and lbs so I started Tae Bo (love
that Billy Blanks!) and started living. I am happy to say I am 123 lb. and
getting more toned. It is definitely the eating and the exercise. I
want to get down to 120 (even 118 if I could).
I also had to go on an over the
counter Thyroid Supplement for about 4 weeks because I found out my thyroid was
too low. I didn't want to go the prescription medication route until I
truly needed it. I used T-2 Pro Thyroid Treatment (BioTest). It is a
"thermogenic" and got my thyroid back on track. A sluggish
thyroid can cause weight gain and improper body function over all. So get
yours checked!
An easy at home way to test (not to
be taken as medical advice) is to check your external body temperature with a thermometer
under your arm as soon as you wake up (put it on the nightstand, don't get up to
go get it). Reason being you need to not be moving at all! At rest,
freshly woken up.
-
As soon as you wake up
immediately place an oral thermometer in your armpit and hold it shut my
placing your arm to your side.
-
Take your temperature for 3 days
-
Add the 3 temps and divide the
total by 3).
-
If the mean temperature (the
average temp) is below 97.2° then you may have a low thyroid. I was
personally between 96° and 97° every day so you can imagine the mean
temperature was about the same. Too low.
Note: Some people record
their temperature for 5 straight days and divide the total by 5 to get the mean
total over a 5 day period. Also your temperature may be higher during
ovulation. A goof reference for this test and tips on how to correct your
thyroid at home can be found at http://www.ybr.org/healthtips.htm.
I had to stop drinking these darn
Aspartame products because they were giving me headaches. Splenda makes a
few diet drinks, hot chocolate mixes, candies, pancake syrup - all kinds of
things! I also have to stop weighing myself twice a day. It is very
unhealthy for the mind.
My advice on decreasing body fat percentages?
STICK WITH SOMERSIZING!!
Update! August
24, 2002: Still going
strong! 17 lb. so far! t is second nature to me now, of course I
cheat every now and then. Today I had whole wheat pancakes with sugar free
syrup and cinnamon (Splenda) and a glass of fat free milk for breakfast, grilled
veggies and a hamburger patty for lunch with mayo for lunch and for diner?
Chicken and spinach in a garlic rich, chunky tomato sauce, some green beans with
parmesan, garlic and olive oil and a glass of wine. I was so stuffed I
didn't have room for dessert. I drink a lot of fruit flavored sodas
sweetened with Splenda brand sweetener. They keep me sane.
