State Medical Boards
This is a lot easier than finding malpractice
information. All you have to to is visit the appropriate state's medical board
website or write them and inquire about your surgeon(s). You can follow
the directions on each website to locate and receive your requested information.
Please click the respective letter for your state, i.e. "C" for
California and you will be brought to that state's information. Please
know that many surgeons are, or have been in the past, licensed in additional
states. Beware of surgeons which move all over (non-military backgrounds)
from state to state. If you find that your surgeon is or has been licensed
elsewhere - inquire as to why this is.
In this section you
can find out if any disciplinary action(s) have been taken against your surgeon
and why. Disciplinary Actions, Accusations and Decisions are a matter of
Public Record. The below links are free, state-run websites whereas if you'd like
to perform a paid search for more than one state you may do so by visiting www.docinfo.org.
Just remember that state disciplinary and civil lawsuits are separate.
Surgeons can be involved in a lawsuit without actual disciplinary actions being
administered by their State Medical Board. Please the Malpractice Lawsuit
Section, at the bottom of this page, for more information.
